About Bobbejaanskloof

Bobbejaanskloof is a place of peace and restoration. The elegant Karoo-style farmhouse sits in a 150-hectare private nature reserve on a plateau at the foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountains.

The main house is nestled in a deep U-shaped kloof where extensive conservation efforts over the last 20 years have seen restoration of indigenous flora and the return of shy bushbuck, porcupine, tortoises, storks, jackal buzzards, herons, ducks and the odd baboon.

Sitting on the generous and comfy front stoep one gazes over grassland, fynbos and forests of yellowwoods, milkwoods, ironwoods, white pear, stinkwood and Scotia pines towards Formosa Peak and the blue giants of the Tsitsikama Mountains.

At night only one light flickers in the distance and the sky becomes a blaze of stars. Peace is easily found here.

What We Love

  • Precious privacy.
  • The herd of pedigreed Nguni cattle.
  • No pesticides, no light or noise pollution, clean air and rain water.
  • Glimpses of zebra, giraffe, eland, springbok, wildebeest and sometimes elephant wandering along the gamefence of the Plett Game Reserve next door.
  • Swathes of colour that come and go at different times of year in the botanical garden.
  • Trails that wind through the Afro-montane forest and along the Hartbees River gorge.
  • The huge contemplation deck that hangs out over the kloof’s yellowwood giants.
  • The outdoor braai and boma set in a eucalyptus grove next to the dam for.
  • Deep, linen sofas; huge fireplaces, comfy four-poster beds, and evocative art pieces.
  • The huge kitchen with everything a good cook needs, and the handmade chairs that span a table for 12.

Essential Information

The house is on a working Nguni cattle farm, 18km from Plettenberg Bay. This is a nature reserve, and guests are asked to respect the strict conservation regulations: no picking of indigenous plants, careful consumption of water, use of alternative energy sources and recycling.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Wildlife will come and go and baboons are sometimes in the area. Many birds species flock around the dams, fields and forests. Bats sleep in the eaves during the day but are very shy and hardly noticeable.
  • Sirius and Luna are our adorable farm dogs. Unfortunately no other dogs are allowed at the main house, but they can stay at the cottage;
  • There is excellent wifi, a landline, and 3G cell signal from the entrance stoep only.
  • There are fabulous restaurants and shopping facilities in Plettenberg Bay, 20 minutes away. Thyme and Again is just 10km away and stocks all the basics. and there is a great Vegan restaurant close-by.
  • Tendi lives on the farm and if you wish her to cook some meals at an extra cost this must be booked in advance. Tendi will always close up house for you and walks the farm dogs for us;
  • The house is fully serviced, Mon to Fri. Should you require a chef or cleaners over the weekend, this must be specified when you book and will be an extra cost.
  • The pool is unfenced and tiny tots should not be left unsupervised.
  • Please help yourself to produce from the vegetable garden.
  • There are jeep tracks leading to viewpoints. The 10km of dirt road and another 10km of grass track is ideal for mountain biking.
  • We have an honesty bar should you run out of your own drinks and Tendi can do some shopping for you but not every day.
  • Farm security is excellent, thanks to an electric fence, the deep gorge surrounding the house, staff that live close by, and an alarm system connected to armed response.
